[July 27, 2013]  The Logan County Board recently recognized students from West Lincoln-Broadwell School and Zion Lutheran School in Lincoln for their athletic achievements.

Recognition of Braydon Simpson
Zion Lutheran School, Lincoln

Long jump and high jump are two of the oldest field events in the sport of track and field. Success in both long jump and high jump depends on speed, strength and agility.

Braydon Simpson, an eighth-grader at Zion Lutheran School in Lincoln, broke the school record for high jump with a season high of 5 feet, 6 inches in 2013. In the long jump Braydon had a season record of 16 feet, 10 inches.

Braydon earned many first and second places in both long jump and high jump throughout the 2013 track season. Among eighth-grade boys at the Logan County Track and Field Meet, he placed first in the high jump and second in the long jump. He took first place in long jump and second place in the high jump at the statewide Illinois Lutheran State Track Championship in River Forest.

On June 18, by formal resolution, the Logan County Board congratulated Braydon Simpson on his achievements and wished him continued success in his athletic endeavors.

Recognition of Zach Prather

Recognition of the seventh-grade girls basketball team

In July, the Logan County Board congratulated the West Lincoln-Broadwell School 7-A girls basketball team. Participating in athletics helps students learn teamwork, sportsmanship and the skills to handle competitive situations. Studies have shown that girls receive as many benefits from sports as boys.
