[March 18, 2013]  NORMAL -- Jack Landwehr threw four scoreless innings in his first college start as Illinois State (8-9, 0-0 MVC) defeated Bowling Green (4-11, 0-0 MAC) 5-0 in the second game of a doubleheader Saturday afternoon at the Corn Crib in Normal. Dan Savas fired a complete-game victory in a seven-inning game earlier in the day, guiding the Redbirds to a 3-1 victory.

Savas (2-0) earned his first career complete-game victory, allowing only one unearned run on one hit. He struck out six and walked three. Home runs from Zac Johnson and Brett Kay powered the offense. Freshman Matt Krenz added one RBI as the Redbirds never trailed. Bowling Green starter Mike Frank (0-3) was handed the complete-game loss. He allowed three earned runs on five hits and struck out five.

In the second game, Landwehr (2-0) worked four scoreless innings but qualified for the win because of a predetermined pitch count. He allowed one hit and struck out two, firing 52 pitches in the win. Otto Roberts worked three scoreless innings, scattering five hits with one strikeout. Jeremy Rhoades pitched a scoreless eighth inning with one strikeout and two walks. Chris Razo allowed one hit in a scoreless ninth inning as Illinois State completed its first shutout since blanking Western Illinois 1-0 on May 11, 2012.
