Portland, Ore.-based Daimler Trucks says its Portland factory that builds Western Star trucks has cut its workforce by about 230 employees.
About 340 jobs will be lost at a Cleveland, N.C., factory that builds Freightliner long-distance trucks. Losses of 715 jobs were expected there originally.
Daimler Trucks says a Mount Holly plant that builds smaller Freightliner delivery trucks and a Gastonia parts plant won't lose any jobs. The company in January had projected 500 cuts there.
The company says the layoffs are due to a cutback in truck demand but that incoming orders allowed for jobs to be spared. |
