TOWANDA -- Alice W. Barnard, 86,
of Towanda, died Saturday, May 4, 2013, at 10:45 p.m. at
Heartland Health Care, Normal

Alice W. Barnard 86, of Towanda, IL
passed away Saturday May 4,2013 at 10:45pm at
Heartland Health Care, Normal She lived all of her
adult life on the family farm north of Towanda.
Celebration of Life services will be 11 a.m. Monday,
May 13, 2013 at Lexington United Methodist Church
with Rev. Garry Gromley officiating. Inurnment will
follow at Lexington cemetery. Visitation will be 4
to 6 p.m. Sunday at Calvert-Johnson & Musselman
Memorial Home, Lexington.
Alice was born September 26, 1926 in Normal, IL, the
only daughter of Frank and Ruth Bramwell Wright. She
was raised on a farm in rural Danvers. She married
J.B. Barnard on December 14,1947 at First
Presbyterian Church in Danvers. He died on May 9,
1976.
She is survived by her 3 children, John D. Barnard,
Lincoln, Betty (Paul) Duzan, Colfax, and Robert W.
(Deborah) Barnard, Towanda. Six grandchildren, Jason
(Laura) Duzan, Birmingham, MI, Jill (Andrew)
Johnson, Salida, CO, Kristina (Adam) Waugh, Monroe,
LA, Benjamin (Katie) Barnard, Springfield, Nathan
(Misty) Barnard, Lexington, and Matthew Barnard,
Dallas, TX. And 15 great-grandchildren, Grace, Drew,
Samuel, Jacob and Alice Johnson, Isabella, William,
Finnigan Duzan, Avery and Emma Waugh, Haylee,
Hannah, Addison, and Taylor Barnard, and Evelyn
Barnard.

Proceeding her in death, her parents, her husband,
daughter-in-law, Muriel Barnard, her brother, Frank
Wright, MD, Appleton, WS.
Alice graduated from Danvers High School. She
attended Illinois Wesleyan University. She was a
member of the Alpha Gamma Delta sorority. She
attended Rural Youth and that is where she met her
future husband. She loved being a farmer’s wife and
mother. She worked for Wright and Wright
Orthopedics. She was a long-time member of the
United Methodist Church in Lexington. She was an
active member of the Eveready Sunday School class
and United Methodist Women. Alice was a member of
the Daughters of the American Revolution, Eastern
Star, Home Extension, and Prime Timers. She
volunteered at BroMenn Hospital, and Arthritis
Foundation for many years. She donated blood to the
American Red Cross for many years because of her
rare blood type. |
Alice enjoyed farm life with her husband and family.
Family was the center of her life. She attended many sports
and 4-H activities of her children and grandchildren. She
rarely missed a game. She loved gardening; meeting with
family or friends for a meal, and ladies card club. She was
a huge fan of the Chicago Cubs. Alice attended ISU
basketball games for many years. She always had a smile and
a twinkle in her eye. Alice felt so honored when her
great-granddaughter was named after her. She was the best
mom, grandma, "GG", and friend to so many. She endured 37
years without the love of her life, J.B. Her faith in God
carried her through good times and bad.
A special thanks to the staff at Evergreen Village
and Heartland ManorCare, Normal for their loving care. We
will never forget their gentle and kind manner making her
final days comfortable.
