Family drama adds intrigue to Ill. governor's race

[May 16, 2013]  SPRINGFIELD (AP) -- Politics has long been a family business in Illinois. But the family drama shaping up around the next governor's race is adding a new layer of intrigue at the state Capitol.

Both a Daley and a Madigan have surfaced as possible candidates in a place where those surnames represent royal families of politics -- an Illinois version of the Kennedys or Bushes.

William Daley is the former White House chief of staff and son and brother of all-powerful former Chicago mayors.

Lisa Madigan is attorney general and daughter of the longtime House Speaker -- a man said to control what happens in the statehouse.

Neither has formally announced. But the possible challenge to the sitting Democratic governor is raising questions and creating a buzz in the Legislature's final weeks.
