IDOT is urging motorists to slow down, obey posted speed limits and drive with caution through work zones. Holiday travelers are reminded that work zone speed limits are still in effect wherever they are posted, even where no construction workers are present.
Following are locations where permanent lane closures remain in place:

IDOT Highway District 1:
DUPAGE COUNTY
IL Rte. 56 (Butterfield Road) –between Herrick Road and IL Rte 59, 1 lane open
in each direction until June.
IL 53 – Roadway reconstruction from Army Trail Rd to Elgin O’Hare Expressway in
Addison & Itasca; one lane open in each direction.
IL route 38 is permanent closures leaving one lane in each direction from Kirk
Road to west of Kress Road in Geneva and West Chicago.
Joliet Street in West Chicago is closed between IL 59 and IL 38.
KANE COUNTY
IL Route 64 from west IL 59 to west of 7th Ave., one lane open in each
direction.
IL 72 at Randall Road – Median areas are closed off from traffic. Intersection
reconstruction in Gilberts; two lane open in each direction.
US 20 over McLean Blvd – traffic change on Interchange reconstruction in Elgin;
two lanes open in each direction.
IL 31 @ METRA RR – Bridge rehabilitation in Elgin; one lane open in each
direction.
Van Buren in East Dundee is northbound traffic only between IL 72 and Williams
Place.
COOK COUNTY
71st. @ CSX RR; Bridgeview; roadway reconstruction; roadway closed – detour
posted.
Il 58 at New Wilke Road in Rolling Meadows has one lane open in each direction
with a left turn lanes at signalized intersections.
Walnut Lane in Schaumburg is northbound only between IL 58 and Bode.
US 12/20/45 over S & S and I & M Canals; bridge deck overlay; NB two lanes open
and SB one lane open.
Willow Road from IL 43 (Waukegan Road) to I-94, there will be one lane in each
direction open to through traffic. That includes the traffic on IL 43 (Waukegan
Road) at Willow Road.
Longmeadow Lane in Hanover Park is closed between IL 19 and Westchester.
Maple Avenue, from 47th Street to Burlington Avenue in Brookfield. Road is
closed to through traffic and detour signs are posted to direct traffic.
IL route 38 has permanent closures leaving one lane in each direction from Kirk
Road to west of Kress Road in Geneva and West Chicago.
US 30 (Lincoln Highway) and Central Ave in Matteson, there will be permanent
shoulder closures – posted please be aware.
71st street, from Roberts Road to Harlem avenue in Bridgeview – grade separation
improvement: road closed to through traffic; detour signs posted.
76th Avenue, from 131st Street to 127th Street in Palos Heights Road closed to
through traffic and detour signs are posted to direct traffic.
Central Ave and I-55 one lane in each direction on Central. Exit Ramp from NB
I-55 to Central and Entrance Ramp to SB I-55 are closed. Motorists should expect
delays.
Touhy Avenue bridge/I-94 (Edens Expressway) will be reduced to one lane in each
direction until July 2013.
Orchard Drive from Sauk Trail to US 30 I Park Forest is closed to traffic in the
southbound direction. Northbound direction is opened to traffic. Detour signs
are posed to direct traffic.
Thorn Creek Drive over Thorn Creek in the Village of Park Forest. One lane will
be shared for north bound and south bound equally; with traffic signals. Please
watch traffic signals for your turn.
Longmeadow Lane in Hanover Park is closed between IL 19 and Westchester.
Walnut Lane in Schaumburg is northbound only between IL 58 and Bode.
IL Route 83, Western Ave./Dixie Highway to Kedzie Ave., one lane open in each
direction. Expect delays.
WILL COUNTY
US 45 (LaGrange Rd.) 159th St. to 179th St., there are no lane closures, however
the width of the existing lanes do narrow.
US 45 (LaGrange Rd.) (131st St. to 159th St.) there are no lane closures,
however the width of the lanes do narrow.
MCHENRY COUNTY
Walkup Road at IL 176 in Crystal Lake; one lane open in each direction on IL 176
and Walkup Road.
Algonquin Bypass project, IL 31 from south Junction to north junction has one
lane open in each direction.
Algonquin Road (IL 62) will remain one lane open in each direction from Meyer
Drive to IL 31.
LAKE COUNTY
IL 132 (Grand Ave.) box culvert over Millennium Trail Pass detour consisting of
lane shift will be in place through May 2013.
IL 21 from south of IL 120 to south of IL 137; one lane of traffic in each
direction on IL 21 and one lane of traffic in each direction on IL 137 at the
intersection with IL 21.
Permanent closures on I-94 from IL 173 to the Wisconsin State Line; three lanes
will be open throughout the whole project. The IL 173 bridge over I-94 will be
reduced to one lane in each direction for the entire project.
IDOT Highway District 2:
JO DAVIESS COUNTY
US 20 east of East Dubuque; one lane open in each direction as two bridges over
Sinsinawa River and Menominee Road are replaced.
OGLE COUNTY
I-39 over I-88; one lane open in each direction as the bridges are painted.
ROCK ISLAND COUNTY
IL 84 over a culvert at the south edge of Cordova; one lane open and controlled
by temporary traffic signals.
STEPHENSON COUNTY
US Business 20 east of Freeport; one lane open in each direction as the bridge
deck is replaced on the structure carrying US Business 20 over Chicago, Central
and Pacific Railroad Company and IT's Parents Railroad.
WINNEBAGO COUNTY
I-90 from Rockton Road to the Wisconsin State line at South Beloit. Two lanes
are open in each direction on the northbound lanes as the southbound pavement is
being removed and replaced.
IL 2 from north of Beltline Rd. to north of Harrison Ave. southwest of Rockford;
one lane open in each direction as the roadway is removed and reconstructed.
US Business Route 20 (West State Street) from Sunset Ave. to Kent Creek in
Rockford; roadway is closed with detour route in place while roadway
reconstruction is completed. Detour route is utilizing City of Rockford Streets,
which include Horace Ave, Preston Ave, Avon Street, Cedar Street and Wyman Ave.
IL 2 from Elmwood Road to Latham Road north of Rockford; the east leg of Latham
Road is currently closed for roadway reconstruction.
IDOT Highway District 3:
BUREAU COUNTY
I-80, MP 56 to MP 61, one lane closed in each direction for bridge replacements.
US 6 over I-180, east of Princeton, one lane closed for bridge repairs, traffic
controlled by signals.
FORD COUNTY
Illinois 9, west of Gibson City, one lane closed for bridge repairs, traffic
controlled by signals.
IROQUOIS COUNTY
I-57, MP 300, between Clifton and Chebanse, one lane closed in each direction
for bridge replacements.
US 45/52, at Kankakee/Iroquois County Line, closed for culvert replacement,
detour posted.
KANKAKEE COUNTY
I-57 Interchange with IL 50 (EXIT #315), northbound entrance ramp closed. Detour
posted.
IDOT Highway District 4:
McDONOUGH
IL 136 is reduced to one lane in each direction with traffic on a temporary
runaround west of Macomb.
TAZEWELL
Eastbound Interstate 474 will be reduced to one lane just west of the merger
with Interstate 74 near Morton.
Near Morton, westbound Interstate 74 will be reduced from three lanes to two
west of the Interstate 155 interchange. The ramp from northbound I-155 to
westbound I-74 will be required to yield to oncoming traffic at the merger.
Near Morton, the eastbound I-74 ramp to southbound I-155 will be reduced to one
lane.
IDOT Highway District 5:
CHAMPAIGN COUNTY
Champaign County Highway 50 (Lake of the Woods Road) over I-74. Traffic signals
are being utilized.
Windsor Road over I-57. Traffic signals are being utilized.
IDOT Highway District 6:
LOGAN COUNTY
Interstate 55 over the ICRR and Kickapoo Creek Overflow located north of IL 10
near Lincoln (MM 129 to 131); bridge reconstruction reduces northbound and
southbound lanes to one lane.
MACOUPIN COUNTY
IL 16 over COOP Branch, located one mile east of Shipman. Bridge reconstruction
reduces traffic to one lane controlled by traffic signals.
IL 111 over Macoupin Creek located 2.3 miles north of Summerville Road near
Medora. Bridge rehabilitation reduces traffic to one lane controlled by traffic
signals.
SANGAMON COUNTY
IL 4/Veterans Parkway over Spring Creek and IL 97/Jefferson Street over Spring
Creek in Springfield. Bridge rehabilitation reduces traffic to one lane in all
directions.
IDOT Highway District 7:
COLES COUNTY
Illinois Route 16 east of Charleston; bridge replacement; stage construction
with one lane open, concrete barriers and traffic signals in place.
CUMBERLAND COUNTY
Interstate 70 between Greenup and Casey; major road reconstruction; stage
construction with one lane open in each direction.
EFFINGHAM COUNTY
Interstate 70 at the Montrose Interchange; bridge rehabilitation; stage
construction with one lane open in each direction and concrete barriers in
place.
Interstate 57/70 around Effingham; major road reconstruction; stage construction
with two lanes open in each direction, concrete barriers in place and ramp
detours.
MACON COUNTY
Interstate 72 (westbound only) just west of US Route 51; bridge rehabilitation;
stage construction with one lane open and concrete barriers in place.
Bearsdale Road over Interstate 72 just south of Illinois Route 121; bridge
rehabilitation; stage construction with one lane open, concrete barriers and
traffic signals in place.
IDOT Highway District 8:
MADISON COUNTY
IL 157 structure over Sugar Creek, just north of Edwardsville. IL 157 will be
restricted to one lane to replace the structure in stages.
CH 1 structure over SIUE North Access Road, 1.5 mile west of Edwardsville. CH 1
will be restricted to one lane to allow the installation of the waterproof
membrane on the concrete deck.
Lane reductions will be in both the north and southbound lanes of I-255 between
Collinsville Road and Horseshoe Lake Road. Two of the three lanes will be closed
at all times to complete necessary pavement repairs, resurfacing, and bridge
work.
ST. CLAIR COUNTY
The right lane of southbound IL 203 will be closed to allow construction
associated with the New Mississippi River Bridge.
The ramp from westbound I-55/70 to northbound IL 3/eastbound I-64 will be closed
to all traffic in E. St. Louis. A detour will be in place while the ramp is
being reconstructed.
The ramp from westbound I-64 to eastbound I-70/northbound I-55 will be closed to
all traffic in E. St. Louis. A detour will be in place while the ramp is being
reconstructed.
9th Street will be closed to all traffic from St. Clair Avenue to Baugh Avenue
in East St. Louis to replace the bridge carrying 9th Street over I-64. A detour
will be in place while the 9th Street bridge is being reconstructed.
10th Street over I-64 will be removed and closed indefinitely to all traffic
from St. Clair Avenue to Baugh Avenue in East St. Louis. 9th street, when
completed, will become two-way traffic in order to continue the flow of traffic
from St. Clair Avenue to Baugh Avenue in East St. Louis. A detour will be in
place while the 9th Street bridge is being reconstructed.
IL 15/IL158, Belleville, both the eastbound and westbound on-ramps from IL 158
on to IL 15 will be closed through September 30, 2013. Closure needed for
roundabout construction.
IL 15/IL158, Belleville, the westbound IL 15 exit ramp on to IL 158 will be
closed through September 30, 2013. Closure needed for roundabout construction.
IL 13 under IL 15, Belleville, closed to all traffic through winter 2014.
Closure needed to construct new structures.
IL 15 bridges over IL 13, Belleville, one lane closed in each direction of
bridges through winter 2014. This lane restriction is needed to construct the
new Eastbound IL 15 structure.
RANDOLPH COUNTY
150/IL 4, Steeleville, bridge over Cox Creek is reduced to one lane of traffic
through Fall 2013. This lane restriction is needed to perform bridge repairs.
IDOT Highway District 9:
HARDIN
IL 146. Two miles east of Elizabethtown, one lane traffic, controlled by signals
for staged bridge repairs.
JACKSON
IL 13, east edge of Murphysboro. Lane closures/shift with median crossover for
bridge replacement.
POPE
IL 145 at intersection with IL 146. Traffic reduced to one lane controlled by
temporary signals.
IL 146 - 3 miles north of Golconda. One lane traffic controlled by signals over
Little Grand Pierre Creek for staged bridge repairs.
IL 146 – 7 miles northeast of Golconda - one lane traffic controlled by signals
over Big Grand Pierre Creek for staged bridge repairs.
JEFFERSON
I-57 southbound lanes / I-64 eastbound lanes. Traffic reduced to one lane prior
to the I-57 / I-64 merge north of Mt. Vernon
I-64 westbound lane. Traffic reduced to one lane prior to merge with NB I-57
south of Mt. Vernon.
IL 37 at Bonnie - one lane bridge construction, temporary signals in place.
UNION – PULASKI
I-57 at mile marker 19 to mile marker 25 - northbound driving lane closed for
rubblization.
WHITE
IL 1. Two miles north of Carmi - one lane bridge construction, temporary signals
in place.
WILLIAMSON
I-57/IL 13 at Mile Marker 54. Northbound I-57 will be reduced to one lane
traffic at IL Route 13
