G.P. Putnam's Sons announced Friday that it has acquired U.S. rights to Brierley's "A Long Way Home," which is already published overseas. A film adaptation is also planned.
Brierley was 5 and begging for food with his brother when he lost track of him and boarded a train to Calcutta, more than 900 miles away. He was homeless for a time and was eventually adopted by an Australian family. With the help of Google Earth images, he found his early childhood village and was reunited with his birth family in 2012.
