[November 20, 2013]  SAN DIEGO (AP) — Josh Johnson and the San Diego Padres have agreed to a one-year contract.

The right-hander was acquired by Toronto in a blockbuster trade with Miami last offseason but went 2-8 with a 6.20 ERA 16 appearances this year. He missed significant time with a triceps injury.

The 29-year-old Johnson had arthroscopic surgery to remove a bone spur in his elbow at the end of the season. He made his big league debut with the Marlins in 2005 and has a career record of 58-45 with a 3.40 ERA.

A two-time All-Star, Johnson led the NL with a 2.30 ERA in 2010, but injuries have been a problem lately. He made only nine starts for the Marlins in 2011 and finished 8-14 with a 3.81 ERA in 191 1-3 innings the following year.

Johnson and the Padres reached a deal Tuesday.
