[November 22, 2013]  MILAN (AP) — Aldo Coppola, a Milan hairstylist who helped merge hair styling with fashion, has died at the age of 73.

Coppola's press office on Thursday confirmed his death overnight following an undisclosed illness.

His collaboration in creating runway hairstyles for Italy's top fashion houses, including Armani, Valentino, Ferre and Versace, dates from the launch of Milan as Italy's fashion hub in the 1980s.

His muses included Naomi Campbell, Sophia Loren, Monica Bellucci and Linda Evangelista. He told Vogue Italia in 2010 that Charlize Theron's was his favorite face for framing with a style.

Coppola got his start at 12 in his father's Milan salon, and by 16 was styling hair for runway shows in Florence. He had a long collaboration with L'Oreal and launched a successful chain of salons.
