Thursday, in spite of a light rain shower that passed through Lincoln at noon, several turned out at Postville Park for the dedication of the park as a smoke-free environment.

The Logan County Department of Public Health and students from the local Reality group approached the Lincoln City Council earlier this year and asked that the city designate all of its parks as tobacco-free. Mallory Sinner of the health department led a presentation given by the students on health and environmental concerns related to use of tobacco in public places.

The city agreed to pass an ordinance making all its parks tobacco-free or smoke-free environments. The signage for the parks was paid for by a grant received by the health department, and the signs were put in place by the city's street department crew.

In spite of the shower, the little ones have to check out the playground.

Marcia Cook visits with an arrival for the dedication.

Roy Logan and Mayor Keith Snyder share an umbrella — a Railer umbrella by the way.

Mallory Sinner, far right, invites folks to join her at the new sign.

Coming forward are Logan, Snyder and Marcia Greenslate.

Alderwoman Kathy Horn also steps forward. Postville Park is in Horn's ward.
