[November 25, 2013]  HARVEY (AP) — Suburban Chicago authorities are searching for a gunman who they say shot a Harvey Police officer who was responding to a reported robbery.

Officials say the officer is in stable condition with injuries that aren't considered life-threatening. He was taken to Ingalls Memorial Hospital in Harvey after Sunday evening's shooting.

Harvey Police Chief Jason Banks said the officer was shot around 6 p.m. when he tried to stop an armed robbery that was happening at a store in the south suburban community.

The gunman ran away on foot. Authorities say he was wearing black clothing and had a black face mask.
