[October 05, 2013]  The seventh- and eighth-grade Lady Wolverines of West-Lincoln Broadwell opened their 2013 basketball season with a bang as both teams defeated Springfield Calvary.

The seventh-grade WLB team was led in scoring by Leah Schneider and Emma Konczyk, both with 16 points. Brooke Montcalm added to the offensive attack with eight points as Makayla Anderson and Madison Orebaugh contributed four points each. Schneider grabbed nine rebounds and Konczyk pulled down six boards. Anderson led the defensive attack with 10 steals.

The seventh-grade Lady Wolverines are 1-0 and will take the floor again Monday at Heyworth.

The eighth-grade WLB team opened the season just as strong, as they, too, defeated Springfield Calvary. The Lady Wolverines were led in scoring by Kaelyn Froebe with 23 points, as Morgan Lolling and Haley Hicks each added 10 points in the offensive attack. Ali Wilson pulled down an impressive seven rebounds and Emerie Wieber grabbed six boards. Froebe led the defensive side with 10 steals and Kennedy Lolling took eight.

The eighth-grade team continued their mission as they entered the Carroll Catholic tournament. The WLB team opened up against Chester-East Lincoln and defeated CEL by a score of 46-7. Froebe led the Lady Wolverines in scoring with 18 points as Wilson added 10. Froebe helped on the boards as well, pulling down six rebounds. Wilson and Wieber were also in great position as they grabbed five rebounds each. Froebe and Hicks were quick with their hands as Froebe grabbed six steals and Hicks seized four. This put WLB in the semifinal game.

The Lady Wolverines faced a tough Mount Pulaski team in the semifinal and defeated the Honeybears by a score of 41-17. Froebe led all scoring with 11 points as Wilson added eight and Hicks put in seven points. On the rebounding side, Konczyk pulled down a mighty eight boards as Wieber grabbed six. On the defensive attack, Froebe quickly grabbed seven steals as Wieber nabbed five and Hicks four. With this win the Lady Wolverines advanced to the tournament championship against Springfield rival Little Flower.

The Wolverines found themselves in a battle in the first quarter of the championship game but never looked back as they went on to defeat Springfield Little Flower by a score of 52-28. Froebe led all scorers with 18 points while Autumn Hoffert put in eight, Wieber provided seven, and Wilson and Morgan Lolling contributed with six points each. Wilson, Wieber and Konczyk each grabbed a mighty eight rebounds. On the defensive side of the floor, Froebe swiped an amazing 11 steals as Wieber with her quick hands grabbed six more.

With the tournament championship, the eighth-grade Lady Wolverines are now 4-0.
