This week the city of Lincoln Fire Department kicked off a month of activities to promote fire safety.  The department has classroom visits scheduled to run throughout the month, a special breakfast at the firehouse this coming Monday, and four special kids will get to ride to school in a fire truck.

Thursday, the first student to ride in a fire truck was Bryce Conner. Bryce lives in Atlanta and attends Carroll Catholic School in Lincoln. He won the honor of riding in the fire truck by being the kindergarten winner of the annual fire safety poster contest.

Because Bryce lives out of town, he got an extra-special ride. He was first picked up in Atlanta in the fire department's SUV.  Bret Tripplett drove Bryce and his brother, Aiden, who is also a student at Carroll Catholic, to the Masonic Temple on the north edge of Lincoln. There they were met by Lt. Ty Johnson and firefighter A.J. Wheatly in the big fire truck.

The two boys were then driven to school.

This is Bryce's first-place poster in the kindergarten division. Altogether there were 14 entries in this division.

A hug for big brother, who will accompany him on the ride. Aiden is a seasoned fire truck rider. While he hasn't ridden with the Lincoln Fire Department, he said he did get to ride once when the family was stationed in Florida.
