Elsewhere in Asia, Hong Kong's Hang Seng gained 0.6 percent to 23,477.48. Seoul added 0.1 percent to 2,052.49 and Sydney's S&P/ASX 200 rose 0.7 percent to 5,358.50. New Zealand, Singapore and Jakarta also gained. Taipei bucked the trend, shedding 0.1 percent to 8,428.27. In currency markets, the dollar gained 0.3 percent to 97.95 yen. The euro shed just under 0.1 percent to $1.3675. Benchmark crude for November delivery edged up 13 cents to $100.94 in electronic trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange. The contract added 14 cents on Friday to close at $100.81.
