Police: 5 killed in car crash in Northern Calif.

[October 23, 2013]  LODI, Calif. (AP) -- Authorities say a multicar crash in Northern California has left five people dead, including a child and a pregnant woman.

Police say the crash took place on a busy intersection at about 5:21 p.m. Tuesday in Lodi, a city of more than 60,000 people about 35 miles south of Sacramento.

The Lodi News-Sentinel (http://bit.ly/17fc3R3) reports that five cars were involved, and the intersection remained closed several hours after the accident.

Police said up to a dozen people were injured, in addition to the five dead. Lodi Police Detective Eric Bradley told the newspaper that three of the injured were in surgery late Tuesday night.

Police are still investigating how the collision occurred.
