			Velma Mae Holmes, 91, of Lincoln, formerly of New Holland, died 
			Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2013, at 2 a.m. at Abraham Lincoln Memorial 
			Hospital. (Below is a copy of 
							the obituary from the funeral home.) ___ 
							LINCOLN-Velma Mae Holmes, 91, of Lincoln, formerly 
							of New Holland, IL passed away at 2:00 a.m. October 
							23, 2013 at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital. 
							Velma was born October 28, 1921 in New Holland, IL 
							the daughter of Peter F. and Mabel Lingenfelter 
							Halstead. She married Paul L. Holmes December 14, 
							1941. He preceded her in death Jan. 18, 2003.  | 
                    
					 
							Velma is survived by one son: Richard (Jamie) Holmes 
							of New Holland; three daughters: Janet (Gary) Heyen 
							of Springfield; Patricia (Herb) Higgs of Lubbock, 
							TX; Vicki (Alan) Detmers of Williamsville; seven 
							grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. She 
							was preceded in death by parents, husband, three 
							brothers and one sister.  
							Mrs. Holmes retired as a bank teller from New 
							Holland Farmers Bank. She was also a beautician and 
							homemaker. She was a member of New Holland United 
							Methodist Church; Women's Club of the church; Know 
							Your Bible Class; New Holland Girl Scout Council, 
							and the Bunco Club. 
							Services for Velma will be held at 4:00 p.m. 
							Saturday, October 26, 2013 at New Holland United 
							Methodist Church with Rev. Becky Barrow officiating. 
							Visitation will be one hour (from 3:00-4:00 p.m.) 
							prior to the service at the church. Burial will be 
							in Richmond Grove Cemetery, New Holland. Memorials 
							may be given to the New Holland United Methodist 
							Church or The Christian Village or Castle Manor.
