LCU volleyball splits over weekend

ST. LOUIS -- The Lincoln
Christian University Red Lions volleyball team traveled to St.
Louis, Mo., to take on St. Louis College of Pharmacy and St. Louis
Community College in weekend matches. LCU came away winning one out
of two, losing to the College of Pharmacy 3-1 and winning over St.
Louis CC 3-0.

Friday night, LCU played St. Louis College of Pharmacy and had
trouble getting into a groove. Set scores were 18-25, 27-25, 23-25
and 19-25. Junior outside hitter Alicia Carson (Gobles,
Mich./Bloomingdale High) led the Red Lions team with 15 kills, while
freshman Erin Taylor (Noble/West Richland High) followed up with 11
kills. Junior libero Emma Donnelly (Clinton/Clinton High) recorded
43 digs on the night. Saturday afternoon, in their second match of
the weekend, LCU took on St. Louis CC and won easily with set scores
of 25-16, 25-20 and 25-22. LCU senior right-side hitter Emily Sheley
(Lincoln/Lincoln Community High) led the team with 11 kills.
Freshman outside hitter Abbey Akre (Newark/Newark Community High)
followed up with eight kills and two solo blocks. Senior setter
Hannah Taylor (Mishawaka, Ind./Jimtown High) led the team in assists
with 35.

LCU will return to action this week on Friday
and Saturday as they travel to Moody Bible Institute in Chicago,
where they will participate in the NCCAA Division II Volleyball
Mid-West Regional Tournament as the No. 2 seed.
