The Pinal County Sheriff's Office says the 14-year-old wasn't wearing a seatbelt and was ejected when the vehicle rolled Monday evening near Casa Grande, about 50 miles south of Phoenix.
The boy's 9-year-old brother and a 13-year-old female cousin also were in the car. They were hospitalized with serious injuries.
Sheriff Paul Babeu (BAB'-yoo) says the car rolled several times after the boy lost control. Babeu says the youth took the family car and that his lack of driving experience caused the crash.
