There's a family history to explain the concern: Maria Shriver's father, Sargent, died of Alzheimer's at age 95 in 2011. Maria, who is back at NBC News, began a weeklong series of reports on Alzheimer's that is airing on the "Today" show, "Nightly News" and other network platforms starting Tuesday.
Shriver told of her daughter's concern Tuesday on a Google Plus discussion that also featured actor Seth Rogen and his wife, Lauren Miller. Rogen says he's encouraged that the disease is starting to get more visibility.
Shriver's series will also discuss an experimental drug given to people before they exhibit symptoms.
