Stephen "Bailey" Elkins, 87, of Lincoln, died Tuesday, Aug. 27,
2013, at 6:35 p.m. at his home.

LINCOLN-Stephen "Bailey" Elkins, 87, of Lincoln
passed away at his home on August 27, 2013 at 6:35
p.m. with his loving family by his side.
Bailey was born on October 15, 1925 in Oblong, IL
the son of William Hampton and Catherine M. Gillard
Elkins. He married Gladys Van Fossan March 15, 1952
in Lincoln. She survives in Lincoln.
Also surviving Bailey is one son: Stephen Elkins and
one daughter: Dianna (Kevin) Hamblin, all of
Lincoln; four grandchildren: Jamie (Joe) Wellbaum of
Springfield, IL; Jeremy Hamblin of Springfield;
Candice Elkins of Lincoln; Colby Elkins of Lincoln;
one great grandchild: Brooke Wellbaum of Springfield
and one sister: Geraldine Lowman of Cape Coral, FL.
They also helped raise two children: Rhonda Chism of
Pekin, IL and Donald Robertson of Chicago, IL.

Bailey was preceded in death by his parents; four
brothers: Jim, Jack, Conrad "Doc" and Burl Elkins;
five sisters: Beulah Sutherland, Elizabeth Schaub;
Dale Fields, Bertha Krause and Lucille Buesking-Brown.
Bailey retired from Illico Independent Oil Co. of
Lincoln after forty nine and one half years as truck
driver statewide. He was a member of Lincoln
Christian Church and Lincoln Railer Booster Club. He
was a precinct committeeman for East Lincoln for
numerous years. He was an avid fan of the Lincoln
Railers and the St. Louis Cardinals.
Services for Bailey will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday,
September 3, 2013 at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader
Funeral Home, Lincoln with Tracy Thomas
officiating. Burial will be in Harmony Cemetery,
Beason, IL. Visitation will be Monday, September 2,
2013 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. In
lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in Bailey's
memory to the Lincoln Railer Booster Club.
