BEASON -- Another feature of this year's Fall Farm Day at Gail's was the booth set up by members of the Logan County Farm Bureau. In the first picture below, pictured left to right are adults David Opperman; vice president of the Logan County Farm Bureau; Blair Hoerbert, president; and Brianna Eeten, who is a member of the Farm Bureau Young Leaders Committee. Standing with Eeten are her two daughters, Emma to the left and Ava to the right.

Opperman and Hoerbert explained that the Farm Bureau has a new program targeted at urban mothers and intended to better inform them about how their food is grown on the farm. Opperman said the program started in the Chicago area, but there is a need for the same type of education in Logan County. The group hopes to provide some useful information to area families about the foods they consume.

The program includes farm tours and firsthand information from area farmers about what they grow and how they grow it.

Throughout the day the group handed out free cups of vanilla ice cream. Considering the heat, many folks were more than delighted to have a cool, refreshing treat as they shopped.

In addition, the group talked to shoppers about agriculture in Logan County. They also had some nice freebies, like coloring books for youngsters as well as a Kids Ag newspaper that featured Illinois specialty crop growers.
