(BPT) -- America has a serious
drug problem, but it's not the one you might be thinking about. The
problem is not illegal drugs or drug abuse, but rather an alarming
percentage of Americans who do not take their prescriptions as
instructed. Approximately 125,000 deaths per year in the United
States can be attributed to medication non-adherence, according to
the National Pharmaceutical Council. (Click

Oasis to host Lunch and Learn on Tuesday
In cooperation with Senior
Citizens of Logan County, the Area Agency on Aging for Lincolnland
has scheduled a Lunch and Learn program on Tuesday for informal
caregivers of older adults and for grandparents and other relatives
raising children. The program will be from noon to 1 p.m. at the
temporary location of the Oasis Senior Center, St. John United
Church at 210 Seventh St. in Lincoln. (Click

In honor of Grandparents Day, state praises grandparents raising
grandchildren
SPRINGFIELD -- In observance of
Grandparents Day on Sunday, Illinois Department on Aging Director
John K. Holton, Ph.D., offered support as he praised grandparents
who are raising their grandchildren. A grandparent who lives with
and is responsible for most of the basic needs of grandchildren ages
18 and younger is a primary caregiver. In Illinois, it's estimated
that more than 100,000 grandparents are serving as the primary
caregivers for their grandchildren when the parents are unable to.
