LCU volleyball wins 1 out of 4 over
weekend

BLOOMINGTON -- The Lincoln Christian
University volleyball team traveled to Bloomington to play in Illinois
Wesleyan University's Barker Classic. LCU (11-5) played four matches in
the weekend tournament, winning their last one on Saturday against
Monmouth College, 3-0.

LCU was without their all-American outside hitter Alicia Carson
(Gobles, Mich./Bloomingdale High) due to an injury. In their first
match of the tournament, LCU went up against Carthage College.
Carthage controlled the action from the start, winning the three
sets with scores of 25-15, 25-15 and 25-16.
In their second match, LCU took on Culver-Stockton College. CSC
was able to run away with the match, winning all three sets: 25-17,
25-15 and 25-9. One of the few bright spots of this match was LCU
junior libero Emma Donnelly's (Clinton/Clinton High) 25 digs.
In their third match of the tournament, LCU took on host IWU, and
Wesleyan beat LCU 3-1. Set scores were 19-25, 26-24, 13-25 and
23-25. LCU senior setter Hannah Taylor (Mishawaka, Ind./Jimtown
High) led the team with 27 assists, while Donnelly had an astounding
33 digs.

In their last match of the day, LCU went up against Monmouth
College. In their previous meeting this year, Monmouth beat LCU 3-2.
However, this time LCU wiped the floor clean against Monmouth,
beating them 3-0. LCU won with set scores of 27-25, 25-23 and 27-25.
LCU freshman Erin Taylor (Noble/West Richland High) and senior Emily
Sheley (Lincoln/Lincoln Community High) led the way as they each
recorded 11 kills.
LCU will return to action on Tuesday as they travel to Eureka to
take on Eureka College at 7 p.m.
