Temperatures will climb into the 50s Tuesday afternoon for much of
central Illinois and from low to mid-60s south of Interstate 70. In
addition, humidity levels will decrease to 30-35 percent. Westerly
winds of 15 to 25 mph, with higher gusts, will occur into the
afternoon.
Recent dry weather has allowed dormant vegetation to become dry,
which combined with the weather conditions, will create conditions
favorable for the uncontrolled spread of outdoor fires. Winds will
gradually decrease through the afternoon, which will lower the fire
danger.
People are discouraged from outdoor burning. If cooking outdoors,
keep a careful watch on the grill. Burning embers can blow around
and easily catch grass on fire. Improperly discarded cigarettes can
also start fires that will spread quickly.
