[April 01, 2014]  ELKHART — The village of Elkhart is once again this year preparing for their spring walk events on beautiful Elkhart Hill. Reservations are recommended in order to assure that you will be able to participate. The walks will be limited to 15 people per group, so make your reservation today.

Wildflower Nature Walks

To enjoy the spectacular wildflowers on Elkhart Hill, the Elkhart Historical Society's Wildflower Nature Walks are scheduled for 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on three Saturdays: April 12, 19 and April 26. (More dates in May are a possibility. See website for updates.) Walkers will depart from Gov. Oglesby Street in historic downtown Elkhart.

Everyone on the Wildflower Nature Walks will receive a wildflower "bingo" card to learn the names of the flowers and to keep track of the beautiful wildflowers they see on Elkhart Hill. Each outing will last approximately 90 minutes.

The outing will be on foot, so walkers should dress for the weather (rain or shine), wear good walking shoes and bring insect repellent.

Master Gardeners in Macon, Sangamon-Menard, McLean, Peoria and Logan counties can obtain continuing education credit for the walk. Contact your Master Gardener coordinator directly for credit.

Cost is $10 for adults and $7.50 for children, age 12 and younger. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Registration is limited to 15 people per walk. To register, mail the online, printable form at http://www.elkharthistoricalsociety.org/ to the Elkhart Historical Society address. Private tours for 10 or more can be reserved by calling Gillette Ransom at 217-899-2238.
