Severe weather possible this evening and night;
flash flooding expected

[April 03, 2014]  The Lincoln office of the National Weather Service released the following weather outlook:

According to the National Weather Service office in Lincoln, a flood watch is in effect through Friday morning for the central and east-central Illinois counties of Champaign, Christian, Clark, Coles, Cumberland, DeWitt, Douglas, Edgar, Logan, Macon, Menard, Moultrie, Piatt, Sangamon, Shelby and Vermilion.

Thursday and Thursday night

A warm front will continue to lift into the area Thursday, with scattered thunderstorms continuing. Then a strong cold front will bring widespread thunderstorms Thursday night. There is a slight risk that some of these storms could become severe. The main severe threats are large hail and damaging winds, with a few tornadoes possible.

Heavy rainfall Thursday and Thursday night will bring an additional 1 to 2 inches of rain to the area, on top of the 1 to 2 inches that occurred Wednesday and Wednesday night. These heavy rains will cause flooding on some area rivers and streams.

Friday through Wednesday

No hazardous weather is expected at this time.

Spotter information statement

Spotter activation will be likely later Thursday afternoon and again Thursday night.
