While at the state competition, Ruth Ruhl competed in Junior
Hippology and Sarah Starasta competed in Intermediate Hippology.
During the contest, 4-H youth answer questions about equine anatomy
and care, including diseases, genetics, parasites, feed, nutrition,
behavior, breeds, equipment, and the digestive, respiratory,
skeletal, endocrine and circulatory systems. Sarah also participated
in the 4-H Horse Formal Speech competition with a speech on "Horse
Adoption."
Logan County youth were coached by Vera Betzelberger and Leslie
Starasta. They met regularly prior to the contest to study academic
and scientific materials relating to horses.
