Obituary

Lois Elaine Conrady, 82, of Lincoln entered eternal life at 11:05 a.m., Wednesday, July 23, 2014 at Lincoln Christian Village surrounded by her loving and dedicated family.

Lois was born October 23, 1931, in Lincoln the daughter of Carl and Mabel Gehlbach Paulus. She married Wayne Conrady of Hartsburg, October 7, 1951. He survives in Lincoln.

Lois is also survived by her children: Three daughters: Elaine Conrady, Lincoln; Carla (Greg) Jurgenson , Atlanta; Jan (Mark) Schleder, Green Valley; two sons: Gary (Valerie) Conrady, Lincoln; and Greg (Lisa) Conrady of Hartsburg; twelve grandchildren: Ryan (Lyndi) Alberts, Alissa (Rob) Smith, Theresa (Justin) Kegley, Leanne (Dan) Walton, Caleb (Jordan) Schleder, Sawyer, Schyler, and Sage Conrady, and Cody, Savannah, Wyatt and Shyanne Conrady; and eight great grandchildren.

Lois was the last of her immediate family. She was preceded in death by her loving parents and brother, Wilbur Paulus.

Lois graduated from Lincoln Community High School and attended Elmhurst College .

Lois was a lifetime member of St. John United Church of Christ of Lincoln, where she was actively involved in Family Fellowship, Christian Seekers, Charity Guild and served on Church Council in the position of Current Fund Treasurer. She also was a member of numerous church committees over the years.

Lois was actively involved as a partner in the family farming operation and Big Oak Hunting Paradise. As an advocate for these passions she was involved in Logan County Home Extension, Logan County Pork Producers, served twelve years on the Illinois Pork Producers Council and she and Wayne were annual fixtures at the Pork Tent ticket booths at the Illinois State Fair, Illinois Angus Auxiliary, Logan County Angus Association, Farm Bureau Women’s Club, Lincoln/Logan County Chamber of Commerce and Illinois Outfitters Association.

Even though the farm operation kept Lois busy, she was very civic minded. She was very proud of her 41 years on the Logan County Housing Authority where she has served as Chairman since 2004. Other organizations to which she belonged were Junior Women’s Club, Lincoln Women’s Club, Emblem Club, and P.E.O.

“Mom and Dad raised us to believe that “Faith and Family Come First!” Traditional family holidays and celebrations were always a “must attend” for us so that we would know and cherish our entire family including great uncles and aunts.”

“Mom was selfless in her availability to care for those she loved. She was dedicated to the care of her parents when they were no longer able to live independently. At a moment’s notice Mom would be on her way to assist with our children, grandchildren and even grandpets. Mom (Grandma and GMa) received great joy from her grandchildren and great-grandchildren during the holidays, special occasions, and in this past year through video messages and Facebook when her illness kept her from being less active.”

“Mom was an advocate and supporter of the Hartem Stags, Lincoln Railers, and Midwest Central Raiders sports, school events, and organizations.”

“Mom always enjoyed and took great comfort this last year in the simple things in life that God provides. Looking out of her home’s windows she enjoyed the variety of wildlife that would visit them, numerous song birds, love of hummingbirds and finches; squirrels, deer and of course, the beautiful “black on green” when she saw the cow herd grazing in the pasture around their home.”

“Mom’s strong faith in Our Savior helped her and our family this past year and these past days. May Mom rest in peace in God’s Glory. It is not goodbye, it is “We will see you later, Mom.”

A service for Lois will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday at St. John United Church of Christ of Lincoln with Rev. Rich Reinwald and Rev. Jan Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Hartsburg Union Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the church and one hour prior to the service Monday. All services were entrusted to Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home, Lincoln.

Memorials may be given to: Mid-Illinois Hemotology & Oncology Associates, LTD., Christian Village, or St. John United Church of Christ.
