Another girl suffered leg injury in the accident, authorities
said.
The girls were with two others their age who were operating a
privately owned recreational boat with an outboard engine in the
waters off Greenwich Point Park, according to statement by police in
Greenwich, Connecticut.
The teens' names were not released pending notification of extended
family. Further information was expected to be released later
Thursday.
Two of the girls were being towed behind the boat on an inner tube
when, for reasons still under investigation, they came in contact
with the propeller, police said.
One girl died at the scene, police said. Her friend was taken to
Stamford Hospital with a leg injury requiring extensive stitches.
The teens were all students at Greenwich High School, the statement
said.

Police said the incident was still under investigation by the
Greenwich Police Department Marine Section and the Connecticut
Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.
