Left-hander Jon Lester pitched his fourth career shutout and first
baseman Stephen Vogt hit two-run homer to lift the Oakland A's to
victory against the Minnesota Twins.
Making his second start for the A's since being traded on July 31 to
Oakland from Boston, Lester allowed just three hits and recorded his
11th career complete game.
The A's (70-44) beat Minnesota for the fourth consecutive time this
season and 10th overall, the longest streak against the Twins in
Oakland history.

Brewers 3, Giants 1
Milwaukee right-hander Wily Peralta (14-6) held San Francisco to one
run and seven hits in six-plus innings as the Brewers beat the
Giants.
Peralta set a career high with nine strikeouts and walked just one
batter for his fifth consecutive victory, making him the first
pitcher in the major leagues to win 14 games this season.

Yankees 1, Tigers 0
Shane Greene pitched eight-plus innings to lead the New York Yankees
to victory over the Detroit Tigers.
Greene (3-1) continued an impressive run of starting pitching by New
York against the American League Central leaders by scattering five
singles and allowing two runners past first base.

Nationals 5, Mets 3 (13)
Bryce Harper hit a two-run homer with no outs in the bottom of the
13th inning against reliever Carlos Torres to give the Washington
Nationals victory over the New York Mets.
The game-winning blast came just one day after manager Matt Williams
told reporters there was no way Harper would be sent to the minors
because of a recent slump. Harper had five hits in his last 28
at-bats before the homer.

Cubs 6, Rockies 2
Javier Baez went 3-for-4 with two home runs and drove in four runs
to power the Chicago Cubs to a win over the Colorado Rockies.

Reds 4, Indians 0
Homer Bailey pitched seven shutout innings and center fielder Billy
Hamilton went 2-for-4 with a triple and an RBI, lifting the
Cincinnati Reds to victory over the Cleveland Indians.
Bailey (9-5) allowed four hits, walked one and struck out eight to
post his first victory since June 29.

Phillies 6, Astros 5
Ryan Howard hit a grand slam in a five-run eighth inning and the
Philadelphia Phillies rallied to beat the Houston Astros.
Howard's slam came off reliever Tony Sipp and was the 13th of his
career, extending his franchise record.
His 18th homer of the season allowed the Phillies to complete a
sweep of the three-game series.

Orioles 2, Blue Jays 1
Baltimore catcher Caleb Joseph homered in his fourth consecutive game
and Miguel Gonzalez pitched six effective innings as the Baltimore
Orioles defeated the Toronto Blue Jays.
Caleb hit a two-run homer in the fourth and the Orioles (65-49) overcame
a career-best 12 strikeouts by Toronto left-hander J.A. Happ.

Pirates 7, Marlins 2
Edinson Volquez allowed one hit in seven scoreless innings and rookie
Gregory Polanco drove in four runs as the Pittsburgh Pirates beat the
Miami Marlins.
Volquez improved to 6-0 with a 1.64 ERA in seven career starts against
the Marlins.

Cardinals 5, Red Sox 2
Adam Wainwright and St. Louis could not beat Boston last October, but
they got a bit of revenge as the Cardinals disposed of the Red Sox.
Wainwright, who had two World Series losses, pitched seven strong
innings, and St. Louis took the rubber game in the rematch of last
year's Fall Classic.

Royals 6, Diamondbacks 2
Alex Gordon hit a two-run home run and Jeremy Guthrie retired the final
19 batters in his first complete game of the season to help the Kansas
City Royals earn victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Mariners 13, White Sox 3
Four home runs and a season-high-tying run total led the Seattle
Mariners to their third consecutive victory in a romp over the
struggling Chicago White Sox.
Second baseman Robinson Cano, third baseman Kyle Seager and outfielders
Dustin Ackley and Endy Chavez went deep for the Mariners, who kept pace
in the American League wild-card race.

Dodgers 7, Angels 0
Ryu Hyun-Jin gave up just two hits in seven strong innings as the Los
Angeles Dodgers beat the Los Angeles Angels to take three of the
four-game series.
