Schwantz and Ferrill take top honors at Junior Carcass Show

ATLANTA -
The Logan County Junior Carcass show was held on Wednesday August 6
at the Atlanta Locker in Atlanta.
There were 13 qualified entries in the Pork Carcass with Taylor
Ferrill of Oreana taking first place. Taylors hog had a hot carcass
weight of 185 pounds, and a loin eye area of 9.3. The hog dressed
out as 58.21 percent fat free lean.

Second place went to Brooke Harnacke of New Holland, and third
place went to Meg Meeker of Emden. See the chart below for results
of all 13 slaughters.
In the Beef Carcass competition Paul Schwantz of Lincoln took first
place with Porter Schwantz taking second and Luke McLaughlin taking
third.
Paul’s carcass ranked first among 10 qualifying entries. His animal
dressed out with a 741 pound carcass hot carcass weight with a
rib-eye area of 14.3. The rack was graded as a USDA Ch+ quality
grade and USDA yield grade of 2.4. The percent retail yield from
round, loin, rib, and chuck came to 51.4. See the chart below for
the results of all 10 slaughters.
