Art Exhibit features sculptural drawings by Joanne Goetzinger

- Joann Goetzinger: Sculptural Drawings will be on display
August 18 through October 10 in the Joe McCauley Gallery, located in
Room 2507 of the Instructional Commons Building (ICB) on Heartland’s
Normal campus, 1500 W. Raab Road. An artist talk will be held at
3:00 p.m. Thursday, October 9 in ICB 2805 with a reception to follow
from 4:00-5:30 p.m. in the gallery.

In her Sculptural Drawings series, Goetzinger combines two
and three-dimensional materials to imaginatively translate
elements of vocal music into a visual form. She uses aluminum
and wood to sculpt abstract, biomorphic forms and then adds
colorful lines and shapes with acrylic paint to increase their
visual animation. Her works actively engage interplay between
positive shape and negative space, both within the piece and
against the gallery walls.

Gallery are free. Gallery hours are weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4

About the Artist
Goetzinger began her career in the arts as a music educator and
professional singer with the Norman Luboff Choir. After
discovering a strong connection between music and visual art,
she redirected her creative vision towards portraying musical
qualities in drawing, painting and sculpture. Her works have
recently been exhibited at the Contemporary Art Center of
Peoria, Eureka College, Galesburg Civic Art Center, Illinois
State University Galleries, McLean County Art Center and Woman
Made Gallery in Chicago.

Active in the Downtown Bloomington revitalization effort,
Goetzinger opens her art studio during First Fridays at 101 W.
Monroe Street. She is also a member of the Around the Corner
Artist Group and is a co-founder, former co-owner and current
exhibiting artist of Main Gallery 404.
Goetzinger holds a bachelor’s degree in music education from
Illinois Wesleyan, a master’s degree in music from the American
Conservatory of Music and a master of fine arts degree from
Illinois State University.
