[August 27, 2014]  Aug 26 (The Sports Xchange) - Major League Baseball on Tuesday denied the formal protest filed by the Tampa Bay Rays regarding their Aug. 23rd game against the Toronto Blue Jays at Rogers Centre in Toronto.

The Rays lost the game, 5-4 in 10 innings. But Tampa Bay manager Joe Maddon protested the game because of a fourth inning decision by umpiring crew chief Bob Davidson.

The Detroit Tigers have not stopped trying to shore up their shaky bullpen. According to MLB.com, the Tigers have claimed Houston Astros closer Chad Qualls on a revocable waiver claim. Detroit now has until Wednesday to strike a deal for the 36-year-old.

One of the talented young players in the well-stocked Chicago Cubs' farm system is expected to be called up to the big leagues.

According to reports, Cuban outfielder Jorge Soler will join the Cubs before Wednesday's game against the Cincinnati Reds.

The Chicago White Sox activated outfielder Adam Eaton from the 15-day disabled list after a rehab stint in the minor leagues. Eaton suffered a strained oblique muscle earlier this month and was sidelined for nearly three weeks.

After missing six weeks with a strained oblique muscle, Tampa Bay catcher Ryan Hanigan was activated from the disabled list.

Hanigan was injured before the All-Star break and had played in 61 games this season after coming to the Rays from the Cincinnati Reds, batting .212 with four home runs and 27 RBIs. (Editing by Frank Pingue)
