[August 29, 2014]  LINCOLN - On Wednesday evening the Lincoln College volleyball team opened up the 2014 season in front of a large and noisy home crowd.

The fans were sent home happy after watching The Lady Lynx earn a four set victory over visiting Illinois Valley CC. Lincoln (1-0) let a late lead slip away in the opening set and lost it 21-25. The Lady Lynx regrouped and took a tightly contested set two, 25-21. In set three, LC grabbed an early lead then held off another late charge by IVCC and won it 25-20. Up two sets to one, Lincoln jumped out to a commanding lead in set four then cruised to a 25-14 set victory.

Stats:

Destiny Adkins 11 kills, 8 digs, 6 points
Jenna Harcharik 9 kills, 1 block
Mariana Rogers 19 digs, 6 points, 2 aces
Ally Lawson 11 points, 11 digs
Jessa Coker 15 set assists, 6 digs, 5 points
Lauren Wendt 5 kills, 4 points

LC Head Coach Mark Tippett:  "It's always great to start out the season with a win at home. We got off to a strong start but tightened up in the middle of the first set. It seemed as though we let a couple of errors get us off track and were unable to regroup in time to avoid dropping the first set.

"In set two we had a hard time getting any momentum going on our serve, but we were very efficient in siding out which kept us in the set. Eventually we broke through and were able to score on our serves. From that point on it felt as though we were in control of the match. I was please with our play in all aspects of the game and look forward to seeing how far this team can go this season."

Lincoln hits the road this weekend for three matches at the Oakton CC Invite on Saturday.
