Tuesday proved to be a dusty
place on Kickapoo Street. Dr. Miller’s former office building was
taken down by a wrecking crew. The gentleman operating the back hoe
maneuvered the bucket with the hands of a surgeon. While parts of
the demolition were straight forward, this particular area was
critical. Miller’s north wall was right next to the theater’s south
wall. With great agility the operator literally picked the wall
apart. At one point a very large section came down with a vengeance.
When the dust settled it was evident that the job was done. You
could feel the angst of the two men guiding the operator and the
operator himself while they worked. And the relief was apparent as
well when it was done.
Lanterman later commented that foundation work and steel framing
will continue throughout winter as weather permits. It is hoped that
enclosing the structure will begin in March. Twin Shores is the lead
construction company with many of the sub-contractors being from
central Illinois.
