							Ralph H. Schmidt, 82, of Lincoln, died at 8:46 p.m. 
							Monday, December 1, 2014at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital, Lincoln.
 Ralph was born May 16, 1932 in rural Lincoln, the 
							son of Herman D. and Matilda Boerger Schmidt. He was 
							graduated from Lincoln Community High School in 1950 
							and enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1952. 
							He served 4 years and was a Military Policeman 
							stationed in Erding, Germany; French Morocco and 
							Kansas City, MO. After his military duty, he began 
							farming with his father in West Lincoln Township and 
							retired from farming in 2006. He also drove a school 
							bus for West Lincoln School for a number of years. 
							He married Johanna Mankus in 1956 and they were the 
							parents of 4 children. He married Betty Reiners of 
							Lincoln in 1972. He is survived by his wife, Betty, 
							sons Robert (Marcia) Schmidt, Coto de Caza, CA; 
							Roger, St. Louis, MO; daughter, Carolyn Schenk, St. 
							Louis, MO; two grandchildren, Stephanie Cochard, San 
							Clemente, CA and Marc Schmidt of Coto de Caza, CA; 
							and one sister, Helen Maaks of Lincoln. He was 
							preceded in death by his parents, one son and two 
							sisters.

							He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Lincoln 
							where he served for more than 40 years as a Sunday 
							School and Bible class teacher. He also served as an 
							elder; chairman of the church’s Evangelism Committee 
							and was a member of the Lutheran Laymen’s League of 
							the church. He was a member of the Logan County Farm 
							Bureau. 
							He was a former member of the Aircraft Owners and 
							Pilots Assn., being a private pilot for more than 50 
							years, keeping his plane at the Logan County 
							Airport. His other hobbies were listening to 
							classical music and reading. In later years, he 
							enjoyed assembling jig saw puzzles.
 Memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran Church or 
							School or the Lincoln/Logan Food Pantry.
 
 Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. 
							Saturday, December 6, 2014 at Zion Lutheran Church 
							of Lincoln. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 
							7:00 p.m. Friday evening at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader 
							Funeral Home, Lincoln and an hour (9-10:00 am) prior 
							to service at the church. Burial will be in New 
							Union Cemetery with Military Rites accorded by 
							Lincoln American Legion Post #263.
