C Ryan Hanigan was acquired by the Boston Red Sox for 3B Will
Middlebrooks from the San Diego Padres on Friday. Hanigan hit .218
with five home runs and 34 RBIs last season for the Tampa Bay Rays.

3B Will Middlebrooks was acquired by the San Diego Padres for C Ryan
Hanigan from Boston Red Sox on Friday. Middlebrooks, 26, hit .191
with two home runs and 19 RBI in only 63 games as he dealt with a
back injury that shelved him for two months last season.

RHP Brandon Morrow was signed by the San Diego Padres on Friday.
Morrow is hoping to make a comeback after he missed 64 games in 2012
with an oblique injury, 107 games with a strained right forearm in
2013, and another 107 games last year due to a finger injury.

C Ryan Lavarnway was claimed off waivers by the Chicago Cubs from
Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday. The 27-year-old has appeared in 97

1B/OF Shane Peterson was claimed off waivers by the Chicago Cubs
from the Oakland Athletics on Friday. Peterson, 26, hit .308 in

1B Garrett Jones, RHP Domingo German and RHP Nathan Eovaldi were
traded from Miami to the New York Yankees for RHP David Phelps and
INF Martin Prado. Jones, 33, has a career .314 on-base percentage
and a .764 on-base plus slugging average.

RF/1B Corey Hart signed with the Pittsburgh Pirates. In 10 major

season.

the San Diego Padres for 2B Jace Peterson, LHP Max Fried, 3B Dustin

with a 4.70 ERA at Double A and Triple A this past season.

Smith were traded from San Diego to the Atlanta Braves for RHP Aaron

in San Diego last year and hit just .113.

LHP Max Fried, 3B Dustin Peterson, CF Mallex Smith and 2B Jace
Peterson were traded from San Diego to the Atlanta Braves for RHP
Aaron Northcraft and LF Justin Upton. Fried was the No. 7-overall
pick in the 2012 draft by the Padres, but he is on the shelf after
undergoing Tommy John surgery.

RHP David Phelps and INF Martin Prado were traded from the New York
Yankees to the Miami Marlins for RHP Domingo German, RHP Nathan
Eovaldi and 1B Garrett Jones. Phelps, who is arbitration eligible
this winter and not a free agent until 2019, has gone 15-14 with a
4.21 ERA in 87 games (40 starts) since his call-up on April 8, 2012.

INF Martin Prado and RHP David Phelps were traded from the New York
Yankees to the Miami Marlins for RHP Domingo German, RHP Nathan

doubles, 22 triples, 78 homers and 426 RBIs in nine big-league
seasons.
