Obituary
Ruth Ann Austin, 76, of Lincoln died at 2:40 a.m.
December 23, 2014 at Memorial Medical Center,
Springfield.
Ruth was born November 5, 1938 in Clinton, Illinois,
the daughter of Jean (Meachum) and William “Ted”
Lillard. She was a graduate of Lincoln Community
High School and Millikin University School of
Nursing. She married V. James Austin on December 24,
1960 in Lincoln.
He survives.
Ruth was a registered nurse, spending much of her
career as Director of Nursing at the former
Lincolnland Nursing Home and served as President of
the Director of Nursing Council. Upon her
retirement, she consulted on a number of long term
care legal cases. She was considered an expert in
the field of long term health care.
In retirement, Ruth became immersed in the standard
bred horse industry, a passion she and Jim shared.
The Logan County Fair racing program was a cherished
event that involved the entire family.

In addition to her husband Jim, Ruth is survived by
children Jodi Becker of Springfield, Jim (Gail)
Austin of Pawnee and Julie (Todd) Campbell of
Ballston Spa, New York; brother Rex (Janis) Lillard
of Groveland; six grandsons: Ethan, Austin, and Owen
Campbell of Ballston Spa, NY; Cory (Sarah) Sisk,
Fort Worth, TX; Matthew (Maggie) Becker and Luke
Becker of Springfield; one great-grandson: Austin
Becker of Springfield and one special niece, Grace
Lillard of Groveland. Preceded in death by parents
and son, Jon William, who died in childhood.
Services for Ruth will be held at 11:00 a.m.
Saturday, December 27, 2014 at
Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home, Lincoln.
Burial will follow in New Union Cemetery. Visitation
will be one hour (10:00-11:00 a.m.) prior to the
service. Memorials may be given in Ruth’s name to
West Lincoln Broadwell School.
