OF Moises Sierra, designated for assignment by the Royals on Dec.
16, cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Omaha. Sierra,
26, was claimed off waivers by Kansas City from the White Sox in
October. He hit a combined .230/.265/.342 with two homers and nine
RBIs in 96 games for the Blue Jays and White Sox in 2014.

MLB Note - Kansas City Royals Coleman, Casey
RHP Casey Coleman, designated for assignment by the Royals on Dec.
15, cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Omaha. Coleman,
27, went 1-0 with a 5.25 ERA in 10 relief appearances for Kansas
City last season. He finished 5-1 with three saves and a 2.15 ERA in
35 relief outings for Omaha.

MLB Note - Pittsburgh Pirates Kang, Jung-Ho
SS Jung-Ho Kang has 30 days to sign with Pittsburgh after the
Pirates secured his negotiating rights for about $5 million. The bid
was accepted by the Nexen Heroes, Kang's Korean Baseball
Organization Club.
Kang hit .354 with 39 homers last season for the Nexen Heroes while
being named the MVP of the Korean Baseball Organization.
"The Pirates are pleased to have secured the opportunity to attempt
to add Jung Ho Kang to our system and look forward to commencing
discussions with the player and his representative in an effort to
make that happen," Pirates GM Neal Huntington said in a statement.

MLB Note - San Diego Padres Johnson, Josh
RHP Josh Johnson was set to sign a one-year contract with the Padres
that could be worth $7.25 million.
Johnson, 30, will receive a $1 million base salary and could earn
$6.25 million based on the number starts he makes, Yahoo Sports
reported. Johnson missed the 2014 season after undergoing Tommy John
surgery in April -- the second such surgery of his career. After
spending his first eight seasons with the Marlins, Johnson was 2-8
with a 6.20 ERA in 16 starts with the Blue Jays in 2013.

MLB Note - Houston Astros Petit, Gregorio
SS Gregorio Petit, designated for assignment by the Astros on Dec.
16, cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Fresno on Dec.
22. Petit, 30, hit .278/.300/.423 with two homers and nine RBIs in
37 games for Houston last season. In 85 games for Triple-A Oklahoma
City, he batted .297/.340/.457 with 10 homers and 43 RBIs.

MLB Note - Minnesota Twins Hughes, Phil
RHP Phil Hughes agreed to terms on a new five-year contract
extension Dec. 22. Hughes, who was originally signed to a three-year
contract last winter that would have paid him $8 million in both
2015 and 2016, will now earn $9.2 million in 2015, $9.2 million in
2016, $13.2 million in 2017, $13.2 million in 2018 and $13.2 million
in 2019 in the restructured deal.
Hughes, 28, went 16-10 with a 3.52 ERA over 209 2/3 innings with 16
walks and 186 strikeouts in 32 starts in his first season in
Minnesota last season. He set a major league record for highest
strikeout-to-walk ratio at 11.63.

MLB Note - Seattle Mariners Bawcom, Logan
RHP Logan Bawcom, designated for assignment by the Mariners on Dec.
17, cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Tacoma on Dec.
22. Bawcom, 26, went 4-4 with six saves and a 4.93 ERA in 40
appearances for Tacoma last season.

MLB Note - Chicago Cubs Watkins, Logan
INF Logan Watkins, designated for assignment by the Cubs on Dec.
19, was outrighted to Triple-A Iowa on Dec. 22. Watkins, 25, hit
.246/.269/.338 with one homer and six RBIs in 31 games for Chicago
last season. He batted .256/.327/.364 with four homers and 38 RBIs
in 103 games for Iowa.

MLB Note - Chicago Cubs Roach, Donn
RHP Donn Roach, designated for assignment by the Cubs on Dec. 19,
was outrighted to Triple-A Iowa on Dec. 22. Roach, 25, was claimed
off waivers by the Cubs from Padres in November. He made the Padres'
Opening Day bullpen last season and recorded a 4.75 ERA in 16 games.
He was optioned at midseason to Triple-A El Paso, where he went 4-6
with a 5.24 ERA in 19 games.

MLB Note - San Francisco Giants Romo, Sergio
RHP Sergio Romo and the Giants finalized a two-year, $15 million
contract on Dec. 22. The Giants decided to bring back Romo, a free
agent, after he lost the closer's job last season and became a setup
man.
Romo, who has been with the Giants during their three title runs
since 2010, finished 2014 regular season by giving up just two runs
and three walks while striking out 23 in his last 19 1/3 innings
covering 23 outings. In 64 games last season, he finished with a 6-4
record and 23 saves with 3.72 ERA.
During the postseason, Romo went 1-1 with a 1.29 ERA, with both
decisions coming in the National League Championship Series against
the Cardinals.

MLB Note - San Francisco Giants Villalona, Angel
1B Angel Villalona was outrighted to Triple-A Sacramento on Dec.
22, clearing a spot on the Giants' 40-man roster for newly re-signed
RHP Sergio Romo. Villalona, 24, hit .227/.290/.381 with 10 homers
and 54 RBIs in 101 games for Double-A Richmond last season.
