Ruth Anderson Jurjevich, 100, died Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2014, at 4:45
p.m. at St. Clara's Manor.

LINCOLN-Ruth Anderson Jurjevich, 100, died
Wednesday, February 5, 2014 at 4:45 p.m. at St.
Clara’s Manor, Lincoln, IL.
Ruth was born Ruth Alfild Anderson to Henning and
Alma Anderson on February 24, 1913 on a farm near
Kenney.
After obtaining her Associates degree from Lincoln
College, Ruth began her teaching career. She taught
in a one-room schoolhouse for a year before moving
on to Chestnut School for 10 years. After marrying
Stephen Jurjevich on June 13, 1943 and giving birth
to daughter Kathryn, Ruth returned to teaching at
Lincoln Development Center as part of a research
project sponsored by the University of Illinois,
where she remained for 26 years.

Following the death of husband Steve in 1995, Ruth
spent many years visiting classrooms in the Lincoln
school system, where she became known to youngsters
as "Mrs. J, the Art Lady."
Ruth was an active member of the Woman's Club of
Lincoln, the Retired Teachers of Logan and Dewitt,
Beta Sigma Phi, and the Jolly Seniors.
Ruth was preceded in death by husband Steve and
siblings Elizabeth and Rudy Anderson. She is
survived by daughter Kathy Rose, son-in-law Bill
Steinmetz, and innumerable people who came to rely
on Ruth as friend and confidante over many years.
Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, February 10,
2014 at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home,
Lincoln, IL. with Rev. Rachel Stockle
officiating. Visitation will be from 1:00 to 3:00
p.m. Sunday, Feb. 9 at the funeral home. Burial will
follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Lincoln. In lieu of
flowers, Ruth asks that donations be sent to United
Methodist Church of Chestnut.
