Thursday morning the
students of Mrs. Workman's eighth-grade class at Lincoln Junior High
School paid a visit to Central School. The purpose of the trip
was to share with third-grade students stories from a book they had
written in honor of Black History Month.
The eighth-graders were
paired up with their younger counterparts and took positions around
the school cafeteria. There they worked in a variety of ways
to share their book. In some of the groups, the younger
students read the stories aloud; in other groups it was the older
student who did the reading.
Before they began, Mrs. Workman
asked for a show of hands from her students as to how many had
attended Central School. When hands came up, she told the
younger students that this showed that one day they could be the ones
writing the book and reading it to others.
She also said her class was
very excited about sharing the book. The research they had
done was geared to the third-grade level, and they had been careful
to write their stories so that the younger ones could understand it.
