Olympia High School speech team sending two entries to state finals

21, 2014] STANFORD
— Representing Olympia High School, Kenyon Jodlowski is advancing to
state as the sectional champion in special occasion speaking;
Cynthia Jo Tackett and Suzanne DeLoriea are advancing as the
third-place finishers in dramatic duet acting. These students will
compete this weekend at the IHSA speech tournament finals in Peoria.

The Olympia speech team finished third at the regional contest Feb.
8, behind U-High and Normal West, but ahead of Champaign Centennial,
Heyworth, Normal Community, Bloomington, Central Catholic and
Danville. Of the 14 individual events, Olympia sent 12 to the
sectional at Charleston on Feb. 15. That contest was won by
Belleville West, followed by Carbondale, Charleston, U-High and
Benton. Of the 36 schools in the sectional, Olympia placed 12th.
In addition to the two entries mentioned above, individuals from
the Olympia team who advanced from the regional to the sectional
were Jared Wade and Gabriele Meissner in humorous duet acting; Jared
Wade in humorous interpretation; Shelby Gordon in prose reading;
Brian Henderson in original comedy; David Bell in extemporaneous
speaking; Collin Schopp in both informative speaking and radio
speaking; Tackett in oratorical declamation; Jodlowski in original
oratory; and DeLoriea in poetry reading.

Also advancing to sectional was the performance-in-the-round
group, with cast members Lauren Horner, Lauren Hostetter, Zach
Banks, Bekah Bauersfeld, Andrew Baker, Allison Schuette, Tyler
DeVault and Delia Kerr-Dennhardt.
