            [February 25, 2014]
Alex Hoffert is a student in
fourth grade at Washington-Monroe School in Lincoln. One night Alex
was talking to his parents about making some of the popular rubber
band bracelets and selling them to raise money for St. Jude
Children's Research Hospital. As they talked, they thought it might
be good to ask the class to help and even see if the bracelets could
be sold at school. | |

            | When Alex and his mom presented the idea to the class, his
classmates were excited to take on the project with him. They love
making these bracelets, and to make them to help other children was
even better. Alex's parents donated the supplies, so that all the
money made on the bracelets could go directly to the hospital. The
students who knew how to make the bracelets taught the other
students and their teacher how to make them. In January and February there were many, many recess periods that
had to be spent indoors. The kids spent their recess time making the
			bracelets.

Many of the students have looms to make these bracelets, so they
brought in the looms to help make more complicated bracelets.

The students sold the bracelets for $1 before school Feb. 18-20.

"This was a great project for them to take on with such cold and
snowy weather that kept us indoors for our recesses!" said Mrs.
Wunderlin, fourth-grade teacher. "The kids and I were grateful for
the support of Mrs. Yeazle and the other teachers as well as the
			students!!"
