Walter 'Knobby' McLaughlin

[January 02, 2014]  LINCOLN — Walter Luther "Knobby" McLaughlin, 86, of Lincoln, died Monday, Dec. 30, 2013, at 12:15 p.m. at Christian Village.

LINCOLN-Walter Luther "Knobby" McLaughlin, 86, of Lincoln, IL died at 12:15 p.m. December 30, 2013 at Christian Village, Lincoln.

Walter was born November 14, 1927 in Middletown, IL the son of Charles and Pauline Kattner McLaughlin.  He married Carley J. Nelson May 5, 1951 in Lincoln, IL.  She survives him in Lincoln.

He is also survived by one son: Don W. (Caryn) McLaughlin; two daughters:  Marsha S. (Bill) Utterback; Janice K. (Doug) Robbins, all of Lincoln; one sister: Nell Tlanda of Dallas, TX; grandchildren: Brandy, Carrie, Sarah, Shanan, Josh, Lyndsey, Misty, Adam, Shane; two step grandchildren: Joshua and Harley Utterback; great grandchildren: Brandon, Carley, Gavin, Elijah, Jada, Mia, Hunter, Hannah, Alyssa, Nancy Ann;  step great grandchildren: Aven and Daykon Utterback.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: Henry, Charles Jr., and Don; one sister: Elzora Dillman; and one daughter: Nancy J. Anderson.

Walter was a service officer at Veterans Affairs.  He proudly served in the US Navy during WWII and stationed in Guam.  He was a member of the American Legion Post #263; VFW and ASPCA. He was a member of the Lincoln Christian Church. Walter was an avid Cardinal fan and loved his cat, Rosie.

Walter chose to be cremated with no services held. Memorials in his name may be given to St. Jude's Children Cancer Research or Humane Society of Logan County.  Services were entrusted to Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home, Lincoln.
