MOUNT PULASKI — Hilma L. Wilham Horn,
92, of Mount Pulaski, died Sunday, Jan. 5, 2014, at Vonderlieth
Living Center.

Mt. Pulaski: Hilma L. Wilham Horn, 92, of Mt.
Pulaski, IL died Sunday, January 5, 2014 at
Vonderlieth Living Center in Mt. Pulaski.
Hilma was the daughter of Dr. Everett and Rebecca
Burris Wilham and was born on October 11, 1921 near
Mt. Pulaski. She was married to Norman "Jack" Horn.
She is survived by three children: Carol Ann (Paul)
Turner of River Forest, IL; Larry Horn of Mt.
Pulaski; and Maryan (Alan) Murphy of Chestnut. Three
grandchildren: Jennifer (Randy) Awe; Bethany Murphy;
and Erica (Kenny) Winkler; great-grandchildren; Cole
and Jessica Awe, Mackenzie Murphy, Chase and Austin
Winkler; sister-in-law Esther Wilham; niece Sandra
Wilham of Lincoln, nephews Gary and Greg Wilham and
Jeff and Troy Wilham; several great-nieces and
great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her
husband, an infant sister, her brothers Carl Wilham
and Merle "Bus" Wilham and nephew Byron Wilham.

Hilma attended Scroggin School, then the Mt. Pulaski
Schools, graduating from high school in 1939. She
went to nursing school at Michael Reese Hospital in
Chicago, then worked at Stanford University Hospital
in San Francisco for a year. Upon her return, she
worked at Deaconess Hospital in Lincoln. She later
went back to work at Abraham Lincoln Memorial
Hospital; Mary Henry Nursing Home and then
Vonderlieth Living Center. She was also a school
nurse at Mt. Pulaski Grade School, and a "soda jerk"
at both Bertoni's Restaurant and Dean's Sundries.
Hilma loved to travel, and went on at least five
trips to Hawaii, her favorite being Maui. Her
frequent traveling companion Dorothy Curtis wrote up
their adventures under the heading "Recycled
Teenagers" for the Mt. Pulaski Times-News.
Services for Hilma will be at 11:00 A.M. Friday
January 10, 2013 at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader
Funeral Home in Mt. Pulaski with Rev. Rachel
Stockle officiating. Visitation will be from
9:30-11:00 A.M. prior to services at the funeral
home. Burial will be at Steenbergen Cemetery, Mt.
Pulaski.
Memorials may be made to the Mt. Pulaski United
Methodist Church or Vonderlieth Living Center.
