RALEIGH, N.C. —
Hurricanes 3, Blue Jackets 2: Captain Eric Staal scored twice and his brother Jordan Staal added the
go-ahead goal during a span of 2:47 in the third period as host Carolina
rallied to its fourth straight victory.

Jordan Staal put his team ahead for good with 5:55 left on a
backhand shot off the rush and the Hurricanes held on to end a
seven-game losing streak against Columbus. Anton Khudobin turned
aside 22 shots for Carolina and improved to 6-1-0 against
Metropolitan Division foes this season.
Derek MacKenzie scored for the third consecutive game and R.J.
Umberger added another 17 seconds later for the Blue Jackets, who
lost their second straight after winning a franchise-record eight in
a row. Sergei Bobrovsky, who shut out the Hurricanes on Jan. 10,
made 32 saves for Columbus.
Bobrovsky stopped 17 shots in the second period to hold a 2-0 lead,
but Eric Staal started the rally by beating him through the
five-hole with 8:42 left. The captain was alone in front to knock
home a feed by Jiri Tlusty exactly one minute later and Jordan Staal
made a move into the slot to beat Bobrovsky for the winner.

MacKenzie opened the scoring by knocking home a rebound of
defenseman Fedor Tyutin's shot off the right post 2:25 into the
contest. Umberger doubled the lead after Nick Foligno intercepted a
poor clear, sent the puck toward the net and Ryan Johansen deflected
it behind him to a wide-open teammate.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Eric Staal has collected four goals and five assists
over his last six games. … Columbus D Cody Goloubef made his season
debut and played his 13th NHL game overall, logging 11:59 of ice
time. … Carolina had 17 hits in the first period and 28 overall.
