“Bo is a guy I have always looked up to in the coaching
profession and I look forward to working with him again,” Stalowy
said. “I think the groundwork has been laid for us to be a
successful team. Now it’s up to us and we look forward to doing
that.”
Stalowy returns to ISU after stops at Bellarmine and Valparaiso.
Stalowy was a four-year member of the Redbird baseball team from
2006 to 2009, and he served as a student assistant coach during the
2010 season.
“I have watched Mike advance in his coaching career during his time
at Bellarmine and at Valparaiso, and his former head coaches (Matt
Tyner and Brian Schmack) could not say enough good things about
him,” Durkac said. “He is a tireless, relentless recruiter, and
having played and coached here, he has a tremendous amount of pride
in his alma mater. I am excited to work alongside him, as we try to
take Illinois State to the next level.”
A utility player throughout his playing career, Stalowy played six
different defensive positions, encompassing all four infield spots
and both corner outfield positions. He recorded a career batting
average of .296 in 178 games as a Redbird. As a senior, he led the
team in batting average (.328), hits (60), runs (41), doubles (15),
triples (4) and stolen bases (12).
