Extension offering youth programs in July

[July 12, 2014]  LINCOLN - University of Illinois Extension/Unit 16 and Logan County 4-H have several youth development programs planned beginning in July.

“Patriotic” Mini Theme Camp will be held at Kickapoo Creek Park in the large pavilion on the hill Thursday, July 3, from 8:45 – 11am for ages 8 – 12. Cost of the program is $8.00 with pre-registration required.

Youth will make a door hanger, patriotic hat, and windsock. A patriotic snack will also be prepared. Call the 4-H office at 732-8289 to register or you may register online at our website: http://web.extension.illinois.edu/lms/logan4h  (look under "Register Online" for 4-H Patriotic Mini Camp). Registration deadline is June 30 and we must have a minimum of 12 registered to hold the Camp.

Cloverbud Camps are three-day mini camps for children ages 5—7. Youth will learn about citizenship, (our flag/our country), personal development, (building character), & earth science (nature fun)!

Sessions will be held from 10 —11:30 am with two session choices of July 8, 9, 10 OR August 5, 6, 7. Cost is $15.00 per participant. To register, stop in at the 4-H office at 980 N. Postville Dr., Lincoln, to fill out a registration form or print the form at http://web.extension.illinois.edu
/lms/logan4h  OR register online (look under "Register Online" for Summer Programs/Logan County 4-H). Register by July 3rd for July Session or August 1st for August Session. Minimum of six participants needed in each session.

At Crime & Spy Science Camp, discover how detectives use science to uncover the mysteries of a crime. We'll solve the case of the "the Murder of Professor Half Track" using clues and conduct our own biotechnology experiments to solve the murder mystery.

Camp is open to grades 3—8 & will be held on July 21, 23, 25 from 10 am—Noon. Cost is $10 for 4-H members ($20 NON 4-H members). Registration materials are available at the 4-H Office or can be printed from our website at http://web.extension.illinois.edu/lms/logan4h  OR register online (look under "Register Online" for Summer Programs/Logan County 4-H). Minimum five participants needed. Register to attend by July 18th.

Girl Tech will take place on Thursday, July 24th from 8:30 am – 5 pm at University of Illinois/Springfield. This program is open to girls entering 7th, 8th, or 9th grades in the Fall of 2014. Cost is $10 per girl. Join us for a fun day exploring technology.

Hands-on activities include the fabulous fab lab, green screen and Limelight, Hi Tech Design using GIMP and scrapbooking with an iPad. Minimum ten and maximum 24 participants needed. Register to attend by July 22nd.
