This week on Monday, Lincoln Community High
School girl’s basketball team was spotted doing some great work at
the Lincoln Depot. Their coach, Taylor Richmond said he asked the
Booster Club president, Teresa Oltmanns, to help find a volunteer
project for the team this summer.
Oltmanns contacted Kathy Vinyard of the 'From
the Ground Up' group who suggested the team could do some clean-up
work around the Depot. The group decided they would plant some
flowers around the round waiting bench outside the Amtrak waiting
station, and scrape and paint the bench.
Coach said, "I wanted a project that the girls
would learn to give back to their community. It's important for them
to learn this no matter what community they live in."
Since the city took ownership of the depot,
there have been a number of improvements made on the green space.
And, some of those projects have been done by local students as well.
