[July 28, 2014]  LINCOLN - John O. Worth, 74, of Lincoln passed away at his home on Friday, July 25, 2014 at 3:39 p.m.

Visitation: Tuesday evening from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Peasley Funeral Home in Lincoln.

A Prayer service will be held following the visitation with Dr. Paul Boatman officiating. 

Additional visitation time Wednesday at 10 a.m. to the time of service at the church.

Service: Wednesday, at 11:00 a.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church in Lincoln

Obituary

John O. Worth, 74, of Lincoln passed away at his home on Friday, July 25, 2014 at 3:39  p.m. .
 
Funeral Services for John will be held on Wednesday, at 11:00 a.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church in Lincoln with Rev. Mark Thompson officiating.  
 
Visitation will be held on Tuesday evening from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Peasley Funeral Home in Lincoln . A Prayer service will be held following the visitation with Dr. Paul Boatman officiating.  Additional visitation will be held on Wednesday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
 
Burial will be in Richmond Grove Cemetery at rural New Holland with Military Rites accorded by the Lincoln American Legion Post # 263.
 
John Oliver Worth was born on January 9, 1940 in Lincoln the son of Blinn and Bertha Schroeder Worth. He was united in marriage to Judith Strawbridge March 17, 1971 in Charleston . She survives.

Also surviving are his children Becky Carpenter, Tina Carpenter Horton, Ronald Carpenter, Kimberly Day Olson. Eight Grandchildren: Jamie (Rich) Vonderheide, Brandon (Jenny) Bouthot, Sean (Laura) Horton, Drake Horton,  Mallory (Clint) Garey,  Kavet Olson, Garrett Olson, and  Josh Olson.  Six great grandchildren: Carli, Ashtin, Aalya, Lily, Brody, and Richie.  His siblings: Marcia Nalley, Lowell Worth, Sandra Buttell, Ronald Worth and Karen Guy.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters: Wanda Putnam, Doloris Phillips, Phyllis Hale, Beverly Johnson, and infant brother: James Blinn Worth.
 
John graduated from Middletown High School in 1958. He then served in the United States Army Military Police for four years.
 
He retired from the Illinois Department of Corrections, after 24 years of service as Truck Driver. He also worked for Lincoln Transfer for twelve years.
 
John was a member of Zion Lutheran Church , Cronin Bros Veteran of Foreign Wars  Post #1756  and Teamster’s Local # 916.
 
He was an avid Cardinal and Illini fan. His hobbies included  golfing, bowling, collecting Coke memorabilia,
and watching race horses.
   
The family suggests memorials may be made to either Safe Haven Hospice, Zion Lutheran Church or Lincoln Christian Village.
